Marianne Vogel, Superintendent

Marianne VogelMarianne Vogel began her career in 1979 as an Assistant Water Chemist and Bacteriologist with the City of Yonkers. In 1983, she was promoted to Chief Chemist and Bacteriologist. At the same time, she became the Director of the Yonkers Water Laboratory, an environmental laboratory approved by the New York State Department of Health for the analysis of drinking water. In 1993, responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the Water Treatment Plant and the five outlying pump/treatment facilities was added to her duties. She was appointed Assistant Superintendent of Water for the City of Yonkers in 1996.

Ms. Vogel joined the Mount Vernon Board of Water Supply as Assistant Water Superintendent in February 1999. Upon the retirement of Richard Maurno in March of 1999, she became the first woman ever to be appointed Water Superintendent in Westchester County.

As superintendent, Ms. Vogel’s primary focus is to ensure that Mount Vernon’s water is monitored as required and meets or exceeds all existing standards of the U.S.E.P.A. and NYS Health Department. She also is oversees the Water Shop which has the duty to maintain water mains, fire hydrants, and service lines from the main to the curb valve.

Ms. Vogel is a member of the American Water Works Association – New York State Section. She is also an active member of the Westchester Water Works Conference (WWWC) and has been involved in a number of committees over the years. From 1990 through 1997, she chaired the Workshop Committee and in 1997, the Finance Committee. In 1998, she became Conference Chair, the first woman to hold that position in the history of the organization.

Marianne earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology from the State University of New York at Albany and a Master of Science in Microbiology from the University of Connecticut at Storrs. In addition to her academic credentials, she possesses Grades IA and D Public Water System Operator Certifications from the New York State Department of Health.
